Burch University Experts Engage in Key Scientific Forum in Sarajevo

Today, the Forum titled “Science and Technology That Changes the World”, organised by the Bosniak Institute – Foundation Adil Zulfikarpašić and the Institute for Biomedical Diagnostics and Research – NALAZ, was held in Sarajevo. The event gathered leading experts from the fields of biomedicine, informatics, genetics, artificial intelligence, and theology.

International Burch University was proudly represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Monia Avdic, and Prof. Dr. Mirza Ponjavic, whose participation significantly contributed to the Forum's success.

The Forum was held under the special patronage of Academician Prof. Dr. Mirsada Hukić, a member of both the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Academy of Sciences, as well as the first representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina in UNESCO’s International Bioethics Committee.

The opening remarks were delivered by Mrs. Amina Rizvanbegović Džuvić, Director of the Bosniak Institute, and Academician Prof. Dr. Mirsada Hukic, a member of the Institute’s Board of Directors. A welcome address was also given by Prof. Dr. Jurica Arapovic, Assistant Minister for Health at the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The event was expertly moderated by Assist. Prof. Dr. Engin Obucic of International Burch University, who guided participants through a dynamic programme of presentations and discussions, fostering a collegial and engaging atmosphere throughout the day.

The Forum featured two presentation sessions with distinguished speakers, including Academician Prof. Dr. Mirsada Hukic, Academician Prof. Dr. Alemka Markotic (via video link), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Monia Avdic, Prof. Dr. Almir Karabegović, Prof. Dr. Mirza Ponjavic, Prof. Dr. Lejla Banjanović-Mehmedovic, Enes Hukić, BSc. Eng., and Academician Emeritus Prof. Dr. Enes Karic. Their talks addressed pivotal topics in contemporary science, such as synthetic biology, antimicrobial resistance, geospatial analytics, artificial intelligence, and the ethical implications of emerging technologies.

A lively question-and-answer session enriched the interdisciplinary discussions and reflected the high level of engagement among attendees.

In addition to the academic programme, a creative workshop titled “Sunflowers and Stars”, inspired by the works of Vincent van Gogh and led by academic graphic artist Senka Hukic  Glamocak, highlighted the connection between art and science in promoting planetary preservation. The artworks produced during the workshop were exhibited in the Bosniak Institute’s atrium and viewed by Forum participants at the conclusion of the event.

The Forum concluded at 16:30 with words of gratitude to all speakers, organisers, and participants for their exceptional contributions. International Burch University is proud of its academic staff for their active and impactful engagement in such a distinguished event.
